A good day: sun and blue sky, visiting family, petting dogs, eating cake from my favourite bakery (picked up for me by @danfoto.bsky.social), a trip to our favourite Asian supermarket, drive home through beautiful and sunlit countryside and homemade ramen for dinner.

I can't watch figure skating without muscle memory kicking in, I just want to be on the ice again. Watching the Olympics takes me right back to that feeling of landing a successful jump.

I've been in a reading slump lately but earlier this week I had an epiphany and digged out 'Karitas' Vol. 2 from my book cart of unreads, lent to me by my mum. It's the perfect distraction, a story about a middle aged artist in post-war Iceland trying to make art against the passing of time.

There's semi-transparent clouds today with blue behind it, I've had a full night's sleep and it's Friday, which means I have the morning off before work, so I've already had a slow cup of green tea with mint.

Today's been a better one, so I took the opportunity to print. 1 test print came out especially nice (to my liking anyway) and another print goes in my secret box of prints for the book project.

For 4 days, I've been wanting to go in the studio to print. I thought today was going to be the day but instead I've been pissed off with my body, the state of access to treatment and all the days "lost" to illness. Hence the book list cause I just wanted to spend some of my time doing a nice thing.

Work in progress from earlier this week.

I'm testing out a new work schedule and have had cosy, slow morning having tea, reading, making plans for our next japan trip and playing with my Instax Link Wide, all while the rain is coming down outside and before my shift starts.

Last day of holiday and I've been able to spend it printing for hours. Had a bit of a test print mishap, which turned into a happy accident with a double exposure. I might try and recreate it someday with a few changes.

Both D and I have been sick for two weeks with the lurgy and it's getting a little old, especially since today it's flared up so I can't do a whole lot and definitely not go on our ritual NY walk even though it's beautifully sunny 😫

The last day of the year showing some good colour before an even nicer sunset. Spend the morning writing, the afternoon watching anime, test printing photography and going for a very long walk. Now there's the evening wait for a takeaway and the year ending.

Able to leave work early, finished all the last bit of prep, went for a very cold and breezy but also fantastically sunny walk down to the beach and finished the evening on the sofa. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you ✨️

Christmas is so stressful and I've had a weird day but I got to talk to my dad on the phone, so now all feels well.

Busy and intense week at work but also a better one. Just 6 more workdays till Christmas holiday.

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

Rested, bought some pressies for people, rested some more, decorated the tree and now D has taken over making dinner for me so I can rest some more 🎄💚

I have a very long to-do list for today. I picked the easiest but also most important task to do first and not only has it taken much longer than expected but I've also found I can't complete it🤦‍♀️ Hoping I'll have success with item 2...

Woke up early after a for-once good night's sleep to discover some surprising and happy news in an email. What a start to the day.

Every year my town puts on a literature festival with small as well as big authors. The focus is often on the coastal and art, because ours is a seaside town with significant investment in art and artists. It's pretty incredible and makes me so grateful to live here now, in a place I feel at home.

Fellow artists, photographers and makers, what pencils do you like to use to sign work?

Going to bed early with tea and a slice of lemon drizzle from my favourite local bakery, 10/10 can recommend.

A very happy afternoon spent printing.

Have spent the last 3 days working on printing. Each time I do, I get a little bit closer to the results I'm after. The print to the left is from February, the one to the right is from today after @danfoto.bsky.social did some software wizardry yesterday.

I try very hard to look for the positives (getting much better at it too) but almost every single nice thing this year has either been taken away or affected by something significantly difficult. I'm gonna get back up and brush off the dirt on my scraped knees (again) but... I just wanted a chance.
