Interesting insights from this survey in Leeds. Topping the list of journeys people would find hard without a car are orbital ones: âRadial journeys in and out of the city centre are easy. Anything vaguely circumferential is impossible unless you go into the city and out again.â Same in Bristol.

With 60% of trips by bike, teens are the age group that cycle the most in the Netherlandsâover 2,000 km. per capita per year. Rather than spend these years depending on parents and waiting for a driverâs license, they experience the autonomy promised by the car without its stress, danger, and cost.

I suspect many would object to paying more tax for resilience investment. But would also expect help/action to have been taken by government when this impacts their town. We need a more honest conversation about what is coming/already here...

Trucks have been getting bigger, more energy & space consuming, more polluting, and much deadlier to everyone around them including kids. Not because most of us actually need bigger vehicles, but as ego boosts, status symbols & âindicators of male virility.â Note the truck bed is basically the same.
