Stimela - Fire Passion Ecstasy [1984] Smooth and funky #boogie from mid 80s South Africa. Once again imploring you to listen to dance music from the continent of Africa every chance you get. Reissue or OG (I have a few special things coming in future posts), this stuff is golden.

King Curtis - Live At Fillmore West [1971] A really special album and crew. King Curtis, the saxophonist who played on Aretha Franklin's version of "R.E.S.P.E.C.T." leads a rhythm section of Bernard Purdie, Cornell Dupree, and Jerry "Fingers" Jemmott, along with the Memphis Horns and Billy Preston.

Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass [2006] YLT is a band with such a voluminous catalog that it can be intimidating. They're still very active, the performances, collaborations, new material, and covers are as vibrant and vital as ever.

Pat Martino - Joyous Lake [1976] Sublime fusion from one of jazz guitar's most overlooked super talents. This is also the first credit for the drummer, Kenwood Dennard. Sort of astonishing given how much his instrument is centered on this release.

Hugh Masekela - Techno-Bush [1984] Recorded in Botswana during one of Masekela's many resurgences. An uplifting and exciting fusion of new drum machines, live drums, jangly high life guitars, choral refrains, and Masekela's own jazz trumpet. Never digitally released. #vinylcollector #nowspinning

It's actually so crazy how obvious it is that the NHL will not send their players to the Olympics, they're on almost the exact same timeline that they used to cancel their participation in the '22 games. Nary a podcast or commentator has mentioned they've pulled this garbage for a decade straight.
