In April fresh green growth emerges from fern plants. These curled fronds are called “fiddleheads” for their resemblance to the scroll carved at the head of a violin, shaped as a decorative spiral known as a volute. Ferns are said to bring good luck and symbolise eternal youth.

Today is #InternationalPlantAppreciationDay, a time to celebrate the plants around us. Spring has always been my favourite season, and the apple trees in my garden are just coming into blossom, one of my most loved sights. What flowers do you look forward to in April and May?
