Picture book rec: SAM SORTS by Marthe Jocelyn won a Mathical Honor this year but is backlist (2017), and I was so impressed by the variety and richness of math ideas, the excellent paper illustrations, and the silliness and imagination of it all.

#MathsToday Last day of classes done! Just finals and grading to go. It's been kind of a rough semester, so I'm pretty glad to see it wrapped up. Concept map day in PoDA and Applied Stats. The PoDA students leaned silly with theirs, which was very fitting for this group.

#MathsToday: Not the smoothest Bayes day in Stat Analysis to close out the semester for that course, but doing an example more slowly and more spread out on the wall with whiteboard paint *really* helped.

#MathsToday Tried a small activity about confidence intervals in Applied Stats that didn't really land. It needs some iteration; will try again in the future for introducing confidence intervals instead of reviewing them (and earlier in the semester energy on everyone's parts might help too).

#MathsToday (actually today this time) Finished up discussing @dingdingpeng.the100.ci's age-period-cohort paper with an independent study student! Only a little bit related to the direction his research has ended up going but interesting and *very* doable for an undergrad to work through.

#MathsToday except... actually yesterday Intro to clustering in Principles of Data Analysis went well! Talked about clustering vs classification, deciding what makes a clustering result "good," and comparing types of clustering.

#MathsToday Probability (to lead into Bayes) in Stat Analysis! good discussion and voting at the beginning about interpreting probability in various scenarios. And I felt like I did an okay job of adding some side paths to wander down in the activity for folks who were familiar with the concepts.
