I get that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (a Tarantino film that grossed $394M) is a safer bet than a likely costlier original animated film for teens/adults, but it’s a shame Netflix doesn’t see animation as a priority for cinemas. The Skydance relationship doesn’t help either.

I'm absolutely devastated and shocked to hear that Daveigh Chase passed away yesterday at the age of 35. Chase really did such wonderful work voicing Lilo in Lilo and Stitch in Chihiro in Spirited Away and her legacy will really live in those films. Such a massive loss.

Lionsgate has few big-ticket franchises (Hunger Games, John Wick, Saw, Twilight, Housemaid, and recently Michael) compared to Warner Bros, but I think Netflix wants some kind of theatrical distributor so they wouldn’t build one from scratch, like how Amazon got MGM.

Hexed looks fine so far. I do like how the titular fantasy world looks, but the humor (mainly from the protagonist Billie) does feel generic in a Disney female protagonist way. I need to see more in order to get a better idea if this is gonna be a good original Disney film.

I find it interesting that Shrek 5 is being co-directed by Conrad Vernon like the 2nd one, and they both involve Shrek and Donkey going to an unfamiliar city (Far Far Away in 2, Further Further Away in 5) and ending up in jail somewhere down the line.

It's crazy seeing the difference between Betty Boop's pre-code and Hays Code designs. The difference is night and day.

You can clearly tell this Pixar parody by Rainbow Studios was made in the 90s when adult animation was seen as a novelty among Western audiences and this kind of bait-and-switch was seen as clever. That, and the CG looks so dated compared to what they were parodying.

I went to a Japanese restaurant today with my family and tried their dumplings since I can’t recall willingly eating dumplings (unless you count empanadas). The one I tried were the Chinese mushroom and spinach buns, and they were yummy!

Other than “You’re Welcome” looking more visually interesting than I expected, I have no interest in the Moana remake. Even bringing back Jemaine Clement as the Schaffrillas crab, which should be a delight to hear again, just adds to the pointlessness like The Rock being Maui again in live-action.

Watched the new live-action "Moana" trailer and thinking of basing my entire online personality around this crab. Hopefully, nobody has already beaten me to it.

Unless Minions & Monsters blows away all box office expectations, this will be the last Illumination film to make $1 billion I think, unless they actually do Super Smash Bros. In the meantime, I expect the next non-Disney $1B animated film to be Ne Zha 3, maybe Shrek 5 next year if it’s good.

While I don’t think The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is great, I’m still glad to see any animated film crossing that $1 billion mark, except Lion King 2019 because of how much Disney was ashamed to say it was an animated film. BTW, yeah this is the better animated film starring Donald Glover.

I do feel bad for Schaffrillas because he doesn’t like being lumped in with other animation reviewers like Enter, Saber, and LS Mark, as he has a larger interest in video games and musical theater, and has been trying to make more of those kind of videos plus giving obscure animation the spotlight.
