Digging the new Anthology 4 set but they really should’ve tucked these rarities into the original 3 volume sets and released them as “deluxe” editions. The chronological running order is what makes the series so enjoyable - this new volume feels carelessly tacked on. 🍏

Shocked to see a mint Mellotron mk VI for sale in Boulder! Only 102 of these were produced in 1999 in white, black and mahogany, all based on the specs of the classic 400 model. I might need to drop by and kick the tires.

As ahead of its time this LP was in 71, Miles had just about exhausted this phase by the time of its release and was in the studio recording On the Corner within about 4 months! The speed with which he evolved in this era is astonishing.

Quality afternoon at the record store. Local radio KGNU was broadcasting from the shop and asked if I’d like to play a track from my bag’. They weren’t ready for this heat.

My personal favorite tape of 71 + easily among the best of the electric era. Ndugu wasn’t a great fit for this tour - Jarrett steamrolled him and he frequently missed Miles’ cues - but everything falls into place here for 90 glorious minutes. A magical gig.

On the bright side, these fools will be living and working in a construction zone for the foreseeable future. That’s no picnic. 🚧
