Worried about Joseph Woll now. I saw Mirtle say this the day Woll's departure from the team was announced. Thought it was weird he made it seem like it was a health issue with Woll, not a personal/family issue. He hinted at a veteran signing, and now the Leafs signed Reimer to a PTO?

Oh ho, Tinus Luc Koblar was not only called up to the SHL again but on the third line, so he'll likely get some real minutes! He's over 3:00 in the first period so far. I just tuned in so I can't say how he's looked.

Vintage Cowboy from junior. There's a reason he racked up so many assists with London, especially on the powerplay.

Phew... I've thought Cowan has looked okay, but his offensive skill hasn't shined a lot. Boy did that look a whole lot different on the power play there. Some good, quick passes including the primary assist.

Yeah, watching only the first few shifts of the preseason I'd say Matthews looks healthier. His puck handling is back to lightning quick.

We all know the only reason why OEL had the confidence and space to make that offensive play is because of the safety net that Danford provided with his elite defense.

More RE: Ben Danford. It says... well maybe not "a lot", but not nothing either, about how the Leafs view and/or want to test Danford that he's with their mostly NHL lineup for tonight's game. Haymes and Cowan getting looks too.

There's something to be said for being able to do the simple, fundamental things at a very high level. Danford is just the platonic ideal of what I consider to be the core defensive skills: Make a stop (zone entry, cycle), get the puck back, move it up the ice.

#Leafs prospect Timofei Obvintsev got into his first game of the season for Gornyak-UGMK in the VHL today. He replaced the starter in the third period and stopped all 12 shots he faced. He moved well, had good positioning and rebound control in the bit he played. Hopefully he gets the next start.

Seeing Matthew Knies added weight from last year to now and is at 232 lbs is hilarious. What an absolute unit.

#Leafs prospect Victor Johansson has been loaned to IK Oskarshamn in the Allsvenskan league. It's a step below the SHL, so it's a nice middle point for him between the SHL where he's probably not ready yet, and the U20 junior league where he's too good.

Because they've tried Domi there multiple times and each time it made fans and Berube want to kill ourselves.

I'll have a full recap of the prospect challenge tomorrow morning, but my standouts from today's game, in order: Peksa, the most obvious. Nansi Conrad (give him an ELC, imo) Quillan, Haymes, Kirwan, and Tverberg Holinka and Hopkins Danford and Chadwick

Nansi and Hopkins are doing a lot to impress me. They're not so great or dominant, but considering their age and where they were drafted against a top prospect team like Montreal's, they're a bit of a problem for them to handle and creating scoring chances.

I've been keeping an eye on Conrad as an undrafted invite, and early on I'm mildly impressed. He's been making solid defensive plays, including on the PK there. Haven't seen much else to his game but holding his own as an undrafted kid against too prospects is impressive by itself.

Tinus Luc Koblar had a nice defensive play in his own end that led to an assist, 3 shots on goal, was +4 and won 12/21 faceoffs.

Late to get my thoughts on the game out, but... Standouts: Danford, Haymes, Quillan and Cowan once Kirwan was put on the line, Kirwan, Kressler. Prokop-Mayea pairing a bit. Disappointing: Valis, Sharpe, Smith.

God... I love Kressler and always have. He does so many good things, makes the right decisions, his physical skills just can't keep up at higher levels.

Lol Danford skating backward not only kept up with a streaking forward but caught up to level him with a good check. His mobility is unreal.

Oh my.... Hopkins didn't get a mention on the broadcast but he made a really nice play in his own zone to start the breakout that led to that scoring chance.

Valis has been handling the puck like a live grenade so far. Three pretty bad turnovers, including one leading to a goal. (I think that was him)

Mayes on the second pair, with an older AHLer. I'm telling you, he's gotten some shout outs from practices yesterday. I thought he took a big jump last year. I think he has a real chance to turn into someone interesting.
