I read Julian Brave NoiseCat’s book We Survived the Night last year. He talks about th Salish Sea and Fraser River. These are sacred ecosystems protected for millennia. But this new pipeline threatens waters that are already at their breaking point from decades of industrial damage.

A spill at the coast would be even worse. Pumping 1 million barrels a day triggers a massive surge in oil tankers right through the Salish Sea. A single ocean spill would completely wipe out marine life and destroy traditional Indigenous fisheries.

If it spills into BC rivers the heavy oil will sink right to the bottom and stick to riverbeds. It would permanently poison salmon spawning grounds, and contaminate the drinking water Indigenous communities rely on. These spills disproportionately harm Indigenous people any time they happen.
