About 2yr ago I vought the most expensive binocs I have ever had. Zeiss, the new very light one. Optical quality amazing. BUT had so much trouble with them. Finally totally broken in summer. A brand new pair just arrived from Germany under warranty. Hoping the dodgy pr was a one-off.

This got me musing today. Loads of essentially useful spuds dumped because presumably the machinery missed them. Why is gleaning no longer a thing. We have enough people in need in s cambs to make it worthwhile, surely

Yesterday 30 June it recorded 32.1 C air temperature, a blistering 41.7 C grass temp. (imagine what that's doing to the flora/invertebrates), and the concrete temp. was so high (50+ C) that the sensor couldn't record it. Even at soil depths of 10 cm it was 29.5 C, and at 30 cm depth it was 20+ C.
