It's Friday! Sandwich day! Today I answer your burning question: who are the poor boys po'boy sandwiches are named after? The answer: Streetcar workers from the great New Orleans strike of 1929! Two brothers stepped up to feed them:

In brief, this maneuver: - effectively converts employee status to "at-will" (meaning they can be fired for any--or no--reason), - redirects whistleblower complaints to internal agency counsel, & takes away these civil servants' rights to appeal adverse personnel actions.

The people of East Palestine were poisoned when the rail company decided to burn off the toxic materials in some of the rail tank cars. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded this "controlled burn" was unnecessary. Pretty evil stuff. All for short term profits.

Incredible. They destroyed a great newspaper because they hated the people who actually paid for it and read it so much that they'd rather scrap the paper if they couldn't get Tucker Carlson's audience

I commend County Executive Ball & local leaders in Howard Co for working to block ICE's attempt to set up another detention facility in Maryland. We saw the inhumanity of ICE's operation in Baltimore & Marylanders have made clear: we do not want these facilities in our state.

Full rights and citizenship actually means they’re not a “foreign labor class.” And that’s what he’s angry about. He’s mad citizenship is universal rather than restricted to white people like before the civil war

I spent several weeks this fall visiting elite liberal arts colleges, on the theory that these small, wealthy schools—with a singular focus on undergraduate education and almost no federal research money to threaten—are best poised to weather the crisis in higher education. Here's what I learned:

Murphy says that it's about getting ICE back to "obeying the law." So ... we already have the laws. What are these proposals actually going to do differently? Abolish ICE. Dismantle DHS. Remove power. Define and enforce consequences. Otherwise its just window dressing.
