A piece of career advice I give people I mentor is to go where you are valued. It means it’s important to be in a role where you are respected, recognized and rewarded. Sometimes despite tenure, it’s better to leave and accelerate your career trajectory versus staying where you’ve been written off.

Saying "coding is dead" is missing the point. Coding isn’t just about producing code, it’s also a way of thinking. It teaches us structure, systems thinking, abstractions and problem decomposition. If you don’t learn those skills, AI won’t make you productive, it’ll make you dependent.

Yup. The US Digital Service was formed from Big Tech SREs. Top level SREs really are elite level problem solvers and trouble makers of the highest order. Many are trans, queer, or at the very least, care about LGBTQIA people, and will end you if you talk disrespectfully about them.

I love how all my AZ radio stations have barely changed their playlists in the last 9 years so I can relive that part of my high school years every time I come back to visit.

I’m tempted to say a few things about last night’s tragedy. But I won’t. And you shouldn’t, either. Let the NTSB do its job.

Heads up for anyone else who might panic about a whole bunch of AWS API calls triggering in different regions for services you don't use - check to see if it's just Resource Explorer doing its thing before letting your heart rate get too high.

I’m rehabbing my old
@steampowered.com
hardware beta machine and I’m in awe at every step. Hat tip to the folks at
@valvesoftware.com
who hand-built C14-C13 extensions to perfectly fit this custom case. There are so many little thoughtful touches in here that were hidden from all but 300 of us.

I love how

French train stations have nice little jingles before every PA announcement and I’m positive they’re all going to be stuck in my head for weeks after I’m home.

if steam libraries are incriminating evidence now, i would like to inform the general public that despite the amount of hours I have in Satisfactory, I am not in fact a factory engineer

Starting with S3. If you've got a problem with S3, then you've got a problem with me, and I suggest you sit and let that one marinate.

This is the kind of stuff that we like to see from cloud providers! I would love to know if there were optimizations (and what they looked like) under the hood that reduced the operational cost on AWS’ side.

I fucking love airports. I love how weird the experience is. I love being outside of time. I love having champagne and pizza for breakfast at 6am. I love the smell of Jet A. I love being alone in a huge crowd of people all ignoring and observing each other

Quick fun Monday project: put a shelf on the rack to get my batteries off the floor by the washer (water is good for them, right?). Next up: consolidating the daisy-chained UPS and EcoFlow.

I know we’re trying to be positive over here but can I be negative about YouTube for a sec? Specifically the Apple TV app (which is buggy on a good day): why the heck am I limited to 480p when watching a video at 1.5 speed? The hardware and my network are more than capable…

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

🚀 I'm super excited to announce that AWS Lambda now support AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) actions! If you know me, you know that I've spent many years finding ways to do chaos engineering on serverless applications. We now have native support for it in AWS FIS!
