On Jan. 14, our parent company Ziff Davis laid off 5 of our members, days after our successful CES showing as the CNET Group. This is the third round of layoffs since Ziff acquired CNET in 2024. We’re sick of our members being on the chopping block. Read our full statement below:

FIGHTING BACK AGAINST AI with worker action AND solid contract protections. Last year, ZDCG took action online and in-person to gain AI guardrails. We swarmed Slack, spoke out at the bargaining table, and took to the streets to picket.

Ziff Davis and IGN routinely decide that work done by our laid off colleagues is not important. But inevitably, that crucial work falls onto those who remain. Not this time. Not anymore.

Places to work quietly, conduct a sensitive interview, or even take a call or meeting are in increasingly short supply. If Condé management was really serious about “productivity,” we would already have the space we need to work. What this is really about is control.

As of 3/3, @CondeNast is enforcing a 4-day Return To Office policy to enhance “productivity." This plan will have the opposite effect. We have detail-oriented jobs that operate on tight deadlines. Condé sold office space during the pandemic, so most of us don’t have our own desks.
