Despite @forbes.com CCO @randalllane.bsky.social's claim to want the best newsroom in media, he & CEO Sherry Phillips are keeping salaries below industry norms. Is it any wonder we've seen an exodus of staffers?

We're back at the bargaining table after 3 YEARS of feet-dragging from @forbes.com, 3 YEARS of paying $$$$ to Forbes' white-shoe lawyer, 3 YEARS of hissy fits and juvenile name-calling. We are still waiting for the reset Forbes CEO Sherry Phillips promised.

Yes, @Forbes has a major retention problem. In recent years, there's been an exodus of talented staff who see greener pastures at competitors where they can get a fair shake. It's beyond time for some transparency! #unionstrong

Right now, there is zero job security at @Forbes, and management likes it that way. ("At management's discretion" is their favorite phrase.) We need a contract that gives normal protections like guaranteed severance and mandatory heads-up before layoffs. #unionstrong

The good news: @forbes.com ramped up the number of bargaining sessions in 2025. The bad news: We've seen no change in tone at the bargaining table, just the same old, same old. Very disappointing.

WE CALL B.S.: We are hearing of members being told we are standing in the way of raises. Completely false! @forbes.com mgt, which continues to drag out bargaining, can offer raises now. We will keep fighting. @randalllane.bsky.social

Let me tell you a more important story about Forbes than today’s 30 Under 30 list: Forbes reporters’ve been fighting for a union contract for 3.5 years. They were offered a 1% annual salary increase last week. ONE! Pls spread the word if you want to help a union (Cc: @taylorlorenz.bsky.social)

We're just asking for a fair contract with decent pay and job protections. @forbes has proposed ending year-end bonuses, offering some of the lowest wages in the industry and a Scrooge-like 1% annual salary bump. We say HELL NO.

I’m walking out with my Forbes colleagues today. I’ve been at Forbes for nearly 6 years and I’ve seen far too many journalists leave this company for media orgs that offer better pay and benefits. The way Forbes treats its employees is unacceptable. We deserve a fair contract now! #ForbesUnion

Good luck. Your demands seem reasonable, particularly around redundancy, because most people know the precarious nature of the journalism profession. As a professional writer, my dept has had a hiring freeze on for 18 months, hoping to replace human written text with machine-generated text.

Walking out in solidarity with my colleagues today. We have been bargaining for a fair contract for almost three years as the company has slow walked the process. The extremely talented & dedicated journalists in our newsroom are the engine that drives Forbes — and deserve to be respected.
