Last year, Theatre of the Oppressed NYC shifted to become a worker self-directed non-profit! (that's as close as a 501c3 can be to a worker-owned cooperative, considering that we have no owners, but we also legally have a board).

"But while both humanization and dehumanization are real alternatives, only the first is the people’s vocation." I first underlined it when I was in my early 20s. I still cling to it today. Humanization is our work. And that's a principle worth living, fighting & dying for.

"Concern for humanization leads at once to the recognition of dehumanization, not only as anontological possibility but as a historical reality. And as an individual perceives the extent of dehumanization, he or she may ask if humanization is a viable possibility..." And then one of my life verses:

O termo "espect-ator" foi criado por Augusto Boal para descrever a participação do público no Teatro do Oprimido. O espectator é um participante que atua e observa, ou seja, tem um papel duplo. O Teatro do Oprimido é um teatro participativo que promove a interação cooperativa entre os participantes.
