The thing to understand about "age verification" laws is that they are not just for kids The only way to "stop kids from doing xyz online" using age-gating is to demand a government ID (or invasive biometric face scan) from EVERYONE. This means associating your gov ID with EVERYTHING YOU DO ONLINE

There are lots of other ways to address the very real harms that kids experience online: ✅ Strict privacy laws that make it illegal to harvest data and use it to recommend content ✅ Antitrust laws so we have real choices for where to go online ✅ Regulate features like autoplay & infinite scroll

The House just held a hearing on 19 (!!) bills related to "kids safety" including several that could mandate online ID checks / age verification, like KOSA and the SCREEN Act. But the reality is that online ID checks would actually make kids LESS safe, not more safe. www.stoponlineidchecks.org
