Huge news for Cathkin Park! One of football's most treasured heritage assets has been designated a Scheduled Monument by Historic Environment Scotland. For a location as iconic as Cathkin Park to be recognised in this way is significant for preserving our football heritage.

I returned to Nottingham Road Cemetery today and was able to locate the grave of John 'Jack' Robinson ⚽⚾ 'Jack' Robinson is buried within but technically not mentioned as buried on the grave. Although he is mentioned with his Wife Edith as parents. www.findagrave.com/memorial/689...

Breadalbane FC pose for a photo with the Ipswich Town squad, 1960s. Based in Aberfeldy, Breadalbane have played in the Scottish Cup, the Perthshire League and the Perthshire Cup since 1880. Like other local clubs from rural Perthshire, they have enjoyed long histories stretching back to the 1880s.

Jorge Chávez No. 1. Named after Peruvian aviator Jorge Chávez, they won the second ever Peruvian Primera División in 1913. They only lasted in the top flight until 1926, dissolving completely in 1992. Pictured below is the Championship winning side of 1913.

The Graeme Souness revolution was in full swing. Rangers would soon embark on their journey to 9-in-a-row. But in January of 1987, Hamilton came to the home of the eventual champions and dumped them out of the Scottish Cup. Remarkable stuff from Accies.

On this day in 1893, Genoa CFC were formed. They were Italy’s first champions, but haven’t won the league since 1924. Despite this, they remain the fourth most successful club in Italy. Most importantly, they remain Italy’s oldest existing football team. Genoa is Italy’s football heritage.

Chinezul Timișoara were a unique football club. Though they were based in Romania, they played in both the Romanian and Hungarian Championships during their existence. After World War II the club merged, but the new club only lasted until 1949. Pictured below is their squad photo from 1923/24.

Corinthians Paulista are 115 years old today 🌑⚪️⚓️ Founded in 1910 by five railway workers inspired by Corinthian Football Club from London, they are now one of Brazil’s most successful football clubs.

In 1966, North Korea caused one of the biggest shocks in international football. They beat Italy 1-0 at Ayresome Park thanks to a goal from Pak Doo-ik. It wasn’t a one-off smash and grab performance either - they excelled in the group stage and even managed to qualify.

K. Beerschot V.A.C. were one of the many clubs to make up the Beerschot football family tree. Most of their success was in the 1920s and 30s, with Belgian Cup making it on to their honours list in 1971 and 1979. They dissolved in 1999 after an audit revealed issues in their taxes and finances.

In 1986, while preparing for a cup semi-final that afternoon, a helicopter landed in the centre of a football pitch. There had been an incident at Chernobyl’s nearby nuclear power plant. The players were evacuated. Stroitel Pripyat ceased to exist, and their stadium was abandoned.

Before the days of the Club World Cup, there was the ‘World Championship’. The name is a bit misleading, as it was only ever competed for by the two clubs from England and Scotland who won the FA Cup and Scottish Cup. But, for a time, Renton FC could call themselves champions of the world.
