This scene is not looked at closely enough by people I think. As Han shows his son continued unconditional love even as he has just been pierced by his blade, Ben for a moment looks remorseful over what he has just done. That’s the incredible thing that happens here.

I was a 2015 Reylo but I was fully prepared at that time for them to turn out to be siblings because I expected them to write the more predictable thing. I was delighted when TLJ leaned into them being totally unrelated and built up their relationship to potentially be romantic!

I see people try to say that Ben Solo returning to the light was some sort of like last minute addition to the story that was never planned but no, this is from the very first draft of IX that leaked. He always returned to the light. His story was NEVER meant to end with him still in darkness.

I will always say that as much as I will always fundamentally disagree with many of the choices made in TROS…it would have been much more acceptable to me if it was never meant to be the final chapter of the story. It just isn’t a satisfying ending to Star Wars.

What really makes me extra mad about that TROS scene where Luke lifts up the X-Wing for Rey is that we know it is inspired by a DOTF draft where Rey lifts the Falcon out of ice on her own. That means they went *out of their way* to change it to Luke doing it for her.
