Very good, Bram! It was indeed 20.05.2006. That was the biggest summetime tornado outbreak since at least 2000 for Central Europa, with 16 confirmed tornadoes in the ESWD. Graphic shows wind and tornado reports of that day.

Now the #tornado stripes seperated into strength. The second graphic shows weak (IF0 - IF1.5) vs. strong (IF2+) tornadoes. There is a disproportionately high maximum of strong tornadoes in the first 10 years compared to weak tornadoes. The average was 9 compared to 3 in the 10 years that followed.

OTD in 1897 the worst known Apulia tornado left a 40 km long path of devastation, impacting especially the towns of Sava and Oria. Homes were leveled while others got their furniture sucked out of windows, grass and dirt were scoured and olive trees were debarked

OTD an outbreak of 7 tornadoes struck the Po Valley, four of them can be rated as IF2.5. Despite towns and villages being directly struck, as well as close calls at the Fossoli di Carpi airfield, incredibly nobody was injured

Despite peak storm season and upcoming changes in my life, Italy's historical tornadoes are still being worked on. Lately I helped @essl-ecss.bsky.social staff in analyzing some of our major tornadoes and so far this is the biggest result: July 4th 1965 now has three IF3s and one F4

Horsham had the UK's heaviest ever hailstone fall back on this date in 1958, which weighed 190 grams - the same supercell also dropped a T4+ rated tornado that tracked over 24 miles although the hailstorm lasted for over 90 miles.

I really hope that @meteofrance.com can get some of their radars in the Northwest working again before tomorrow afternoon, as models indicate an impressive setup for (strong) tornado potential in this region. We are currently missing all 3 radars there...

Last evening into early night an impressive supercell moved through parts of southern France, cyclically producing at least 5 low-level mesocyclones: streamable.com/rb0qq1 We will have to see whether some produced a tornado. The most suspicious signature is shown in last images, with suspected TDS.

Also, by bettering the ESWD query, turns out especially August 29th featured a full blown outbreak across Europe, with the “outsiders” being the 28th tornado in Lombardy and the 29th’s waterspout

Here are the results of these last few days of severe weather tornado-wise in Italy. Three confirmed: one rainwrapped, one highly visible (the strongest and more impactful) and one intermittent rope. Verretto area got struck by IF2-strength straight-line winds on the 28th

Thanks ! We had several events today. At least two tornadoes in Allones (Eure-et-Loir) and Saint-Rabier (Dordogne), two suspect cases in Saint-Hilaire-Bonneval (Haute-Vienne) and Bias (Lot-et-Garonne) and a long funnel near Saint-Amand-Longpré (already hit by a tornado in july). Very big day !

It appears, based on radar, that this supercell highly likely produced 2 more tornadoes, given very convincing looking TDSes and couplets! So that was quite the cyclic supercell! Some individual radar frames and 2 loops, both with and without RGB: streamable.com/i2v99i, streamable.com/8f0ygp

A very strong bow echo is currently reaching the coast of Northwest Italy, after producing wind gusts up to 159 km/h (at 142 m elevation) in Corsica! Destructive winds are possible!
