Pizza is an art form. I appreciate how every topping appears to have intention in its placement. Each bite should have every element. Not only does this improve taste, but it is incredibly satisfying to admire.

Tried a different Middle Eastern restaurant today. Mr. Shawarma in Roseville, MI, unassuming spot in a strip mall in a metro Detroit suburb. It’s not top tier but still very good. The meat shawarma was excellent.

Every element of this Birria Torta was excellent. The bolillo was crusty on the outside & soft on the inside. Proportions were on point. Lots of Birria with refried beans, pico de gallo, crema, cheese, & lettuce. Brilliant execution.

Ordering at Middle Eastern restaurants is such a wild ride. This is Boff’s Mixed Grill and is supposed to be for ONE OR TWO people. Below the meat is at least a pound of perfectly cooked rice. This will last 3-4 meals & I’m not mad about that.

Dined at Jaja in Cleveland yesterday evening. Stunningly cool ambiance with incredible food & beverage to match. They recently reopened after almost 2 years. Their menu is vastly different than before the closure. The pig’s head was an absolute delight.

I’d never noticed these structures before yesterday. This is an attempt to rejuvenate Kiwanis Park in Detroit. According to the Detroit News in 2018, “The idea was to use public art as a catalyst for the whole community,” said Mikel Bresee. The sandstone structures are stunning.

Picked these Ube Crinkles up from one of my local Asian supermarkets. When I say these are dangerously good, I am underselling how absolutely delicious they are. I could eat the entire package right now.

If you write online reviews especially for small businesses, PLEASE stop tying so much to “prices have gone up,” or “they stopped making my favorite item,” & leaving a 1 star review. Unfair reviews like those put an undue burden on the business. Small businesses are rarely greedy & doing their best.

I am privileged to have health insurance. Today I had my yearly checkup with my primary care physician. We spoke about a wide range of issues. Most importantly, it astounds me that people don’t trust doctors. Everything we spoke about was in my best interest. I trust science & my doctor.

They HATE Abdul El Sayed & are using his Piker event to claim that he’s both antisemitic & the wrong choice in the race against McMorrow & Stevens. Picked up this delightful treat from a grocery store in Dearborn Heights. It’s buttery, sweet filo dough stuffed with lots of pistachios. The bakery sections of these Middle Eastern grocery stores are wonderful.

It never ceases to amaze me how often I am still impressed by shawarma. We have so much great shawarma around metro Detroit. This version from Pangaea Global Kitchen is tremendous. Grilled rather than cut off a spit, this shawarma is seasoned beautifully with the perfect amount of toum & pickles.

Visited Palenque Restaurant in Southwest Detroit today. It’s a cozy space that operates like your grandparents’ home. The food, while not exceptional, reminded me of eating my grandma’s food. I ordered steak. It was overcooked but seasoned perfectly just like my grandma would’ve done it.

I struggle with a belief system so ridged & self serving that bringing mass destruction to “nonbelievers,”’is a justifiable position. The inability of these people to hold any empathy or think that other beliefs can also be valid is astonishingly dangerous.
