I had predicted that the #TrumpTariffs at the levels announced will not stand and between reversals, pauses, concessions, deals, compromises, exceptions and carve outs final tariffs when they settle would be less than a quarter of what was announced last week. The walk back has already begun!

Except that this ain’t going to happen cause most of these won’t actually be implemented apart from in not very macro significant symbolic cases so the US admin can save face and throw red meat to its base!

In summary, my judgement on the #LiberationDay tariff announcement is that: "These #tariffs will be lobbied against, negotiated away, twisted and manipulated, undermined and watered down to a weighted average level that is no more than 25% of the headline level within the coming months."

Tariffs at these rates, will not be paid, cannot be paid, and within a matter of hours, days, weeks ... effective tariff rates levied on most substantial American imports will be brought down to a fraction of these headline numbers either by exemptions, or negotiations, or becoz no one pays them!

It's just a rather badly designed chart folks ... or it could be the beginning of the end of the American economy ... No one really knows ... Willing to bet that this nonsense will not last and one or another, these tariffs will not be levied or paid for more than a few symbolic days at most ...
