Reading a book about music and... I get the need to use evocative words when you're describing sound. But maybe it needs to be proof-read by someone who knows what the words mean. For the avoidance of doubt, you can't blindly use 'syncopated' as a synonym for 'rhythmic'. You can't use 'swung' either

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

The common sense meaning should make this Elon Musk's "rivers of blood" moment Though I think he goes further than Enoch Powell in a couple of important ways

People wonder why the BBC only showed Live Aid on BBC2, but what nobody remembers now is that there was an all-day concert on BBC1 raising money to make the famine much worse, for balance.

Starmer's language was deplorable. It was grotesquely offensive, accusing people who have brought their gifts to this country of doing "incalculable" "damage"; & politically foolish, in endorsing Farage's claims of an establishment conspiracy. But bad analogies with Powell miss the key problem. 🧵

A couple of years ago, when The Waterboys headlined
@folkbytheoak.bsky.social
the backstage area had emptied out in the run up to them going on leaving just a few of their guests. As I walked through I spotted Clem Burke sitting on his own. I probably should have said something to him.

I just misread it as "Richard Dawson's House Of Games", which would be quite something. I'd watch.

Random thought : I went to a CofE primary school (which in practice just meant that we had a vicar lead assembly every week). I remember being read the “First they came for the…” poem, and… somehow internalising it as being about the importance of patience and waiting your turn?

I wasn't in a going-out mood last Saturday but I'm glad I made the effort for a lovely evening listening to Amelia Coburn and Jim Moray at Gulliver's. Intimate and warm.

Enchanting stories in the songs of Jim Moray and Amelia Coburn at Komedia tonight. His trad ballads urge you to discover more from the collections of Child, Sharp & Kidson. Her odes go from Grimms & the gothic to Tinder on Teeside. A delightful evening. Tickets https://

20 years after the first time it was nostalgic and lovely to see
@jimmoray.bsky.social
tonight And be introduced to Amelia Coburn, fabulous opening. I feel like at a gig many many moons ago Jim Moray and another artist whose name I don’t remember had me sit on the floor and sing Postman Pat.

I'm going to be playing one long set instead of two halves on this tour. This is great in lots of ways, but one of the not-so-great bits is that I'm busy in the changeover, and people want to go home at the end so theres less chance to sell merch and have a chat in the break. SO...

When I was a trustee for EFDSS I found out that a lot of important documents in library collections are digitised and then the originals stored “in a salt mine in Cheshire” because it’s the most stable climate for them. And look! Here it is!
