On #tdih in 1974, Sam Lovejoy, an anti-nuclear activist, sabotaged a 500 foot weather tower near Montague, MA to protest a local nuclear power site. Using a few farm tools to loosen the turnbuckles in the stays of the tower, Lovejoy left behind a pike of twisted wreckage.

Civil rights leader and Georgia congressman John Lewis, born #tdih in 1940. He played a key role in the civil rights movement as chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) & risked his life as a Freedom Rider & on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. He died in 2020.
