The new season of #ArcRaiders started today, and I'm enjoying starting from scratch. It seems like it's become a lot less friendly in solo lobbies, as a bunch of normally friendly people have turned into sharks smelling blood in the water.

We're at a hotel tonight for a friend's birthday, and I just overheard two staff discussing their various health obsessions (diet, exercise, "cleanses", etc). During a smoke break.

My favourite bar got rid of the TV screens that played old movies, as well as the chalk board of all the beers on tap... And replaced it all with a MENU. Bars should not have menus. You should just KNOW drinks, like they're magical spells. Bummed me out. My Old Fashioned was still great, though.

It's an Arc Raiders Christmas, and I'm spending far too much time finding Candelberries so we can all celebrate. Im doing a character wipe tomorrow, so I think I'll load up my character with all the blueprints, epic weapons, and keys I've accumulated, and hand them out like I'm Santa.

Did a run at the local board game cafe, for xmas. Got games for my siblings and my daughter. Accidentally bought an extra game (thunder road, aka "mad Max meets Mario kart"). Would it be weird if I wrapped it and put it under the tree for myself?

Any good TTRPGs out there that have good group stealth mechanics? That you'd be willing to share?

Just made a Negroni, have some nice light snacks, and wrapped up in my comfiest PJs. Think it's high time to put on some old Blues, and roll up a Traveller character.

Just did something I'm profoundly ashamed of. Something I've never done my whole life: I bought an umbrella. I can't stand this rain anymore. I know, I know, this means I'm no longer a Pacific Northwester. Some cops hand in their gun and badge; I'll hand in my socks and sandals.

After many, many hours of #ArcRaiders, I've developed my preferred way of playing: Start with NOTHING. Everything you scavenge, you keep. After extracting, upgrade one piece of gear, add one item (that's only one rarity better than what it replaced), add one stack of ammo, then go in again. 1/2

Imagine being trapped in a burning car, and it just happens to be a Ford Escape. It'd be like a sheep getting hit by a Dodge Ram.

Victoria has happy hours that are two hours long. Some restaurants have them from 2 to 4, some from 3 to 5, and some from 4 to 6. There's also a late night happy hour that starts at around 7. You could have a restaurant tour, of just happy hour. A daily migration of drunks.

Stardew Valley style TTRPG. PCs have to grow their garden, tend their animals, and use the hours in their day wisely. Instead of combat, there are "farmers markets" where you have to sell your carrots for top dollar. Every now and then, there's a dance.

TTRPG set in a grocery store. PCs all work in different departments. The store is short staffed, under stocked, and is currently experiencing the apocalypse. The goal is to survive the shift, not get fired, and exact petty revenge on fellow employees who have wronged you in the past.

TTRPG set in the 1980s. PCs are all action heroes (tough cop, commando, special ops, martial artist, etc). Players get a SFX budget they use to blow up bad guys, explode things, and the like. They earn budget only through cheesy one liners, or whenever they take damage.

Bought my daughter the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack on vinyl for xmas today. At my favourite record store. I immediately explained "uh, it's not for me." Guy looks at me and says "why should I care what the fuck you listen to?" I like him. I wish tipping was an option at record stores.

Steampunk mech game, where the PCs are mercenaries working for the colonial powers of 1875, in orbital balloon stations in the rings of Saturn. PCs land on the jungle planet of Saturn and fight alien monsters, privateers, and jungle beasts. And explore ruins of the Ancients.

A friend of mine just invited me to his 50th birthday next month. When we met, he had just celebrated his 30th. More than grey hairs, more than "not getting the kids these days", more than anything, it's made me feel kind of old.

"how did you get into TTRPGs?" It was the late 1980s, and I arrived late to my weekly satanism class. People had already filled up the heavy metal, video games, and Lovecraft electives, so it was either D&D or Carebears.

Holy crap, the jersey for the Vancouver Goldeneyes, the new team in the PWHL, is super slick.

A week after our first traveller session, one player has already bought the core rulebook, and is looking at getting one of the alien books that details his characters species (the analytic amphibian bwaps) in more detail. He seems QUITE hooked.

Players decided to skip DCC today to play Traveller instead. They named their ship the Rock Lobster, and had a fun session investigating an imperial Close Escort ship that had suffered a violent decompression. Fun was had, and nary a shot was fired. They even hired new crew!

Ive converted a 4e dnd module ("sceptre tower of spelgard") to Dungeon Crawl Classics. Last session, my players hit the final act - ascending the tower to take on the villain. And, just like when I ran it for 4e, I'm gonna truncate that bit heavily, because HOOBOY is it a slog.

Had a hero arc raiders moment. Im well armed, and fully laden, trying to extract. Two guys, in newbie dress, are getting sniped by another player. I throw a smoke grenade, and revive one of the downed raiders. "Get to the Evac!" I yell. 1/4

So WEIRD watching a Sharks game where theyre not the underdog. I like it.

Just had the best run in arc raiders. Lightly armed, with a looters backpack, exploring the ruins of the spaceport while two teams of raiders had a running battle going on. I hid, crawled, and scavenged my way to an extract. Didn't fire a single shot, and extracted w a lot of valuables.

Taking my daughter out for sushi. She's never been. Next table over, a woman is ordering with a shellfish allergy. What kind of person goes for sushi with a shellfish allergy!?

Back in the 90s, there was a comic about an assassin who would deliver warning shots to corrupt politicians, and if they didn't change their ways, the next bullet was real. His name was X or something. He's pretty heavy in my mind these days.

Ive spent the last two hours scouring the apartments of a buried city, moving from tunnel to tunnel, and breaking into buildings from the rooftops, all in search of... Toasters. I need three. For... Reasons. Ive dealt with robots, and snipers. And come through. #ArcRaiders

Greetings, fellow humans. I have a #DnD community question for the #TTRPG folks out there: I've had a lot of luck learning the history of TTRPGs in the world, but I had a few hyper-specific questions about the hobby history during the 80s. Anyone recommend some scholars of Bluesky?

The thing I love about arc raiders is that you meet a bunch of people who are incentivized to kill you and take your stuff, and they just... Don't. Ive YET to encounter another player who is playing to kill. One guy shot me... And then immediately brought me back to life. Warms my heart.

Oh man Arc Raiders is GOOD. Did a mission where I was carrying good loot, trying to sneak past these huge robots to get to an evacuation point. Got there and two other players were there, and not sure if they could trust me. Then three arcs closed in, and we fought em off and escaped.

Good job, New York.

My daughter's friend came over for dinner tonight. One of the things I do when cooking is ask my kiddo what the meal needs. More salt? Some vinegar? It's kind of how I onboard her for the meal (shes picky), but also to teach her how to cook. Her friend was AMAZED I asked, and then LISTENED. 1/2

Was in the school office today (had some forms to fill out) and saw a brand new teacher on her first day (she's still in uni, today she's getting shadowed). She looked all of 19, was bursting w excitement, and i was thrilled for her.

Just downloaded Pacific Drive on the Xbox because it's free on gamepass. A survival horror game where you drive an old 1970s beater car through a haunted post apocalyptic Pacific Northwest. My wife watched me play. She was entranced. Pretty sure she'll be playing it soon.

Saw the trailers for arc raiders. A shooter where avoiding shooting is a good tactic? In a post apocalyptic setting? Where the point of the game is scavenging? Oh man, so much yes.

Made up a crew of travellers, as if they were all PCs. They rolled up a ship (a far trader variant), and had a decent amount of cash. Then I started playing them, to get a feel for how the various subsystems interact. A few thoughts:

Spent an hour in the library, and overheard a down on her luck woman try to enlist a librarian into helping her commit fraud. Librarian talked her down, and later told me "services are cut, but people need help. So that's my job, now." Librarians are fucking SAINTS, y'all.
