Amazing definition in this romantic 1855 image of Fountains Abbey by Philip Henry Delamotte. The image was produced by the 'collodion wet plate process', which needed the photographic material to be coated, sensitised, exposed and developed within the span of about 15 minutes ,

Oldest bell in their tower was cast in 1499 so we edged up the staircase to wind the mechanism, wondering at the weight of history and a cache of ancient smokes, stuffed into a pigeonhole.
