I always felt the "rule" of eliminating adverbs and adjectives was stylistic, but there is a reason. The brain "chunks" information and the chunk limit for working memory is 4. A lot of paragraphs are 4 sentences for a reason. So tons adverbs and adjectives use up chunk memory and slow reading.

Lilein is a character after my own heart. She struggles with self-confidence even after coming to love herself, and pours love into her hair as a way to reclaim it. It's ok to have doubts. She's gorgeous inside and out, and when she forgets that, Amadice and Ra'tha are there with gentle reminders.

Long form is where I devote my energies. But short form is where I get to play. I tend towards sci-fi short forms because I get a lot of sci-fi ideas but don't have the scientific mind to carry them through longform. Short form lets me explore them without fear of failure. #pretendpanel

Sigh. I've been writing for about 30 years. - I use em-dashes because they mimic the immediate nature of a shift in thought. - I wrote the mechanic of "delving" into my manuscript. It's basically the D&D "identify" spell on a molecular level. The "XYZ proves AI" trend is codswallop. That is all.

I'm not enjoying The Sandman S2, and that sucks. There's nothing wrong with it. The cast and crew have done fantastic work. The script is as decadent as ever. But it's tainted. I see everything through the lens that is Neil Gaiman. The metaphors and symbolism are a recurrent slap to the face.

Yanagi Kodama was a gentle spirit but livelier than most kodama―still enamored of the bustle of nature down to the tiniest denizens inhabiting his bark. His roots were sturdy and delved far, but not so as to draw him from his outward attention into the communion of the deep earth. #WIPSnips #WIP
