We’re supposed to get clobbered by a storm. Rain is coming for us through Christmas, so I’m going for cozy vibes. Tonight’s dinner: The sourdough is a Sonora (white whole wheat) and dark rye blend, paired with a warm bowl of vegetable soup. 🥖🍲

Part of the problem, I feel, is good advice is always given in response to something. But then we remove the advice from that context, package it up, and pretend it applies generally. And that just isn't true.

I made an end grain board for cutting bread, using 2x4 scraps leftover from building our basement stair railing. It was quite a process to do without a planer. I glued up the blocks, filled cracks with sawdust and CA glue, and then sanded for *about* a week. #Woodworking #Bread #Wood #Crafts

I think hard magic systems can be a great way of showcasing a character's intelligence (though there's definitely a risk of overdoing this). It could also ground the reader in a character's perspective, if a POV is a magic user who presumably has to think through what they're doing. #SffChat

I feel like hard systems work like mystery stories. They give you enough info, in principle, to predict what will happen, but try to use what's already established in a fresh way to surprise the reader. Soft magic systems shouldn't be inconsistent, but don't necessarily have this dynamic. #SffChat
