Excellent work from TC on barrier trials. More BHA ineptitude. Anyone who’s observed the excellent Irish system knows what an invaluable piece of information it is for punters to know that an apparently unraced 2yo has in fact been to a track, through the stalls and had what approximates to a race.

My Highness would need to show a lot more than she did this afternoon to be winning a Classic anywhere. Very disappointing.

Classic trials proper get under way today. My Highness looks the star turn. Those of us optimistically “clutching” 1000G ante-post vouchers (which, sadly, no longer actually exist) will accept nothing less than an impressive win plus Fabre’s famed Anglophilia prompting a change of heart re target.

Gethin won really well yesterday. It’s not hard to imagine him doing well in Group company this season. Burrows is such a good trainer.

Early days, of course, but Adonius recorded an exceptional time in winning the Musselburgh 2yo race yesterday by seven lengths, no less. Already gelded, he cost “just” £32k as a yearling but his owner will be fielding some big offers in the coming days. Wathnan at the front of the queue, no doubt.

She runs in the last at Musselburgh today. Perfectly capable of winning it if she’s ready but she’s one of five in the race for her trainer and stablemate Montezuma is currently favourite. It took Woohoo a couple of runs last season to fully hit her stride so you couldn’t be too confident.
