I use my library all the time. I’ve written so many of my books there and most of the books I read are from the library. It’s my second home.

I love seeing posts with tips to help querying authors get signed by an agent, but a *lot* of these posts fail to mention that a huge part of getting signed is luck. Being in the right place at the right time with an agent who happens to want what you happen to be writing.

Can't stress this enough: a random story you write on a lark may end up being the one that gets you the most recognition while the one you really love may get few reads and/or your worst reviews. Don't overthink it. Publishing is a gamble. You'll win some; you'll lose some.

I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!

The dirty little open secret to writing is that no one will ever know, nor care, how many drafts of a thing were written - people will only ever care about the crafted thing, and will, despite all knowledge to the contrary, assume it came out fully formed that way. No one thinks about shit drafts.

Remember when "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" tried to teach us about tariffs and no one was paying attention

So, I signed a contract to publish my 6th novel this morning.

Your writing process will change on a daily basis with every project, because every project is different. Whatever gets you to the final product is the way that that book needed to be written. So I need you to stop scrolling and say this aloud right now. "My writing process is not broken."

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if all you accomplish this weekend is reading a riveting novel cover-to-cover whilst drinking multiple kettles of tea and consuming a scandalous amount of croissants, then you will have accomplished more than enough.

Being a perfectionist in your writing is the default setting for new writers. We all start that way. But when you’re building a house, you don’t paint it as you go. You lay a foundation, build a structure, put in the wiring & pipes, build the walls and lay the floors, THEN you can think about paint.
