This is definitely a hot take and the sort of thing they love to speciously misinterpret in conversations about "toxic masculinity" but we'd be a lot better off if we could deal frankly with the fact that most men are taught that being actively stupid is an integral part of gender performance

I really believe *it is that deep* If you struggle to empathize with complex, messy characters who have cruelty in their hearts, how are you going you react when you find cruelty in your own? Will you stuff it down and lie? Will you shame spiral? Or will learn to love the horrid parts of yourself?

If I head another person complain about characters being *unlikeable* I'm going to burn this place to the ground imagine a world where you learned to emphathize with people who weren't allegories in a morality play
