They don't write 'em like this anymore. This yesteryear edition of Gerald Durrell's My Family & Other Animals has a blurb which reads like bookseller patter from 60 years ago. I love the list of animals moving from the ordinary & alliterative via the exotic to the sublimely ridiculous pet names.

For Broken Veil, we had to include several UnGooglable examples of “chthonic babble” - strange but redolent phrases that imply meaning but are strange, inhuman, not part of our world. It’s one of our favourite ideas. Wondered where the term originated. Just Googled it. It doesn’t exist.
