Channel 4 News is generally the best of a bad bunch in UK news broadcasting but it was odd in their report on the Scottish and Welsh elections today that they said Plaid and SNP had failed to win majorities but didn't say both countries use PR systems which make majorities almost impossible.

SNP got 38.2% of constituency votes, higher than the 32.2% for Labour in the Westminster general election that gave it a Commons landslide. Higher than the 35.3% Labour got in Scotland in 2024. But the SNP victory is a 'fluke' that means the system needs changed while Starmer has a mandate.

Maths isn't their strong point:
