The Proposition is an excellent film. I first saw it while I was doing a post-grad film journalism course with the BFI. I find it rather scary that that’s 20 years ago; it feels more like about two minutes.

Just bought a Christmas gift for myself - 186 copies of ABC Film Review mag from 1951-1969. Unfortunately I’m the least patient person in the world, so will be on tenterhooks until they arrive.

Read this recently and loved it. Made me miss my wee boy, who passed away in July, but now, every time I see a film featuring a cat not in the book, I wonder what Anne would say and if there’ll be a second volume.

Glamour Ghoul, a biography of Vampira/Maila Nurmi by her niece, is well worth a read. Some amazing stories in it about her life in Hollywood and the people she knew.

300th film of the year watched: Behind the Mask (1958), decent medical drama recently recorded on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social Great cast, including Vanessa Redgrave (alongside dad Michael) in her big screen debut.

The cold I’ve had on and off for 3 weeks isn’t a cold at all, it’s a chest infection. I now have antibiotics, but in the meantime, I’ve pulled a muscle in my ribs due to excessive coughing. It’s fair to say I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself.

I was nicknamed Babs at uni, although it didn't really stick. When I started work, there were so many Sarahs I suggested they call me Babs instead. Nearly 30 years on, that's all I'm known as to colleagues. Nobody I've met outside the office ever uses it; I'm always Sarah.

Whether you're a fan of his humour or not, it doesn't matter – this will be a fascinating chat with one of the nicest men in the world. Me and @real-meaning.bsky.social hung out with him backstage at a @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social event last month, and he and his wife were adorable.
