Following coverage over the weekend of Sir Paul Nurse's comments that suggested that the only reason that a Fellow should be expelled from @royalsociety.org is scientific misconduct, I have written to him to explain the risks such an attitude poses of increasing sexual harassment in STEM.

We are very excited to be hosting the Sheffield half of our Insigneo/Sano Modelathon, which kicks off tomorrow! This year, our teams in Sheffield and Krakow will be working on challenges that focus on the role of multiscale modelling (0D, 1D, 3D) in improving the management of ischaemic stroke.

Been a bumpy term. Navigating academia with grief has been almost impossible at times. Teaching has taken so much more effort and been exhausting. 'Performing' in lectures and tutorials, being the calm, organised, trouble-free, dependable person in the room for my students has been so hard 1/n

You can do this right now: Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better. Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.

Today seems to be the day that the stress of a 4 year engineering programme has hit my students. I am well supplied with tissues for tears and creme eggs for solving problems.

I've seen an entire year of this tree at Sheffield Botanics. It's a beautiful tree, I love spending time near it. In the current world, it's important to take time to appreciate the wonder still here 🥰

Oh my word, my former PhD researchers are getting married and having babies. I am feeling old!!

On my tenth and final train of the week! Been on a mix of Grand Central, East Midlands, Cross Country, Northern and LNER. All left on time, not all arrived on time. East Midlands most comfy, LNER cleanest... Cross country in need of some upgrade of furnishings or at least a very deep clean!

Sometimes academia really makes me smile for unexpected reasons. Flowers from a former MSc student I taught in ~2017. We dont always know the impact we make.

Got some time set up this week to work on a grant proposal...and then I get the reviews in for my last submission which I need to respond to... how did they know? 😕
