SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source. They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

Collaboration and community are ways we can move forward through the morass.

The IMLS is an independent agency created by Congress. It does not fall under the authority of the Executive Branch. If, say, dismantling DOE is illegal, this is illegal squared.

NEW — Keith Sonderling, Trump’s Deputy Secretary of Labor, has been named the Acting Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an agency source tells me. He’ll arrive tomorrow at their office with DOGE and their security detail.

yep, it's censorship. in this case, it's the restriction part of book censorship. the thing here that's especially infuriating is that they're keeping the books on shelves to not be called out on banning specifically. . . even though it is still 100% censorship.

LGBTQ+ people exist. The book ban movement has always been a means to an end that has very little to do with books. And everything to do with silencing, othering and erasing the people and stories reflected in the pages of the books. This is not what freedom feels like.
