What consistently freaks me out about this cover is the intense chiaroscuro lighting on a white background. What were they thinking?

I was hoping the Phase II "K'Tinga" plans would be an accurate recreation of the D7 with the exception of the hat shape. Turns out there's a lot of changes. The only thing they nailed was the head bulb. So I'm straightening the perspective of the original D7 plans based on matching that shape.

Finished with the forward hull. Crazy enough this is the easiest part. Trying to model this in a way that it could be printed one day.

I would much, much rather have more seasons of Shadow and Bone - a show Netflix still emails me about - than another version of Avatar. And I'm less likely to try a new fantasy/scifi series out because it could be gone in a season or two and never wrapped up.

The funniest thing about Shatner is that he thinks we all missed the drug innuendo in pop songs so he’s gotta point it out to us as bluntly as he can. His over enunciation of “high” and “rock it, man!” here, for instance. He does it with Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and The Candy Man as well.

Evil was an extraordinary mix of episodic and serialized television. It was like the X-Files but for esoteric religious ephemera and modern internet culture. Funny, horrifying, and just plain brilliant. Needed at least one more season.

My kid, who is fiercely avoiding The Blair Witch Project because it's too scary, took me to Backrooms yesterday. I'm like, if you can watch this you can watch Blair Witch easy. In fact, Blair Witch may be too tame to enjoy after this.

I have a lot of problems with TOS Remastered. This scene from the beginning of Troubles with Tribbles really highlights how odd some of the animation direction was. There's a lack of basic film continuity knowledge and at times they don't seem to be in control of the camera spline path. 1/

This is the problem Star Trek has as well. The rule was you’d never see earth and the underlaying structures than make it a paradise. As more cynical writers took over they kept going back to earth to not just show utopia but deconstruct it. Without that mysterious backbone the franchise collapses.

Gene stopped every TNG script from becoming a TOS sequel. If you thought Naked Now was lame, imagine every episode like that. He made the show stand completely on its own. He also nixed a number of bad ideas in TSFS, TVH, TFF, and TUC. His notes were really on point.

We’ve been praising Tatiana Maslany on @shipfullofjerks.bsky.social quite a bit lately. Just saw the first ep of her new show “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed”. I don’t know where it’s going to go, but she’s completely amazing in it as usual.

Every time a starship launches I think of the Holy Grail scene where the guy’s castles keep sinking into the swamp. Expect there is no fourth one that stays up. They just keep burning down, falling over, and sinking. But at least its pretty good pig country.
