I have removed my earlier repost of an extract from Anne Frank’s diary. It purported to be a direct quote, but it wasn’t. Here is the original diary entry for the day mentioned, from the copy of her book given to me by my parents for Easter 1982. Accuracy matters.

#31DaysOfGraves - Day 5 #Bird. Earlier today I was tidying up the grave of my mother- and father-in-law at Pembury, here in Kent. I took a wander after I'd finished (Ulterior motive, moi? 😉) One of these little ducks had fallen over, but I was pleased to be able to put it back in place.

I don't know where this revisionism has come from about the suffragettes - people saying "if the suffragettes were around today, they'd be considered terrorists." The suffragettes were arrested and tortured, sexually assaulted and beaten by the state. They *were* considered terrorists!

It's rather late in the day, but here's my contribution for #31DaysOfGraves, Day 4. The theme today is #Languages. I saw these two gravestones in what remains of a Jewish cemetery in Große Hamburger Straße in Berlin last year.

#31DaysofGraves Day 3: #Tomb. This is as close as I can get; a grave in the churchyard at Westbury-on-Severn in Gloucestershire which *may* be one of my Bellamy ancestors. If so, probably a 6x or 7x great-grandfather. (I have several generations all called William Bellamy.)

It's a little late in the day, but here's my first post for #31DaysOfGraves. I won't be posting every day, but I reckon I can manage more than half of the themes. Day 1 is #Flowers, and here is the grave of my 3x great-grandfather, in #Charminster in Dorset.

This evening’s research consisted of two children born Arthur Hough in 1869, both in Northwich RD in Cheshire, both with MMN Atherton. One in Q3, one in Q4. Having bought digital images of both, one was the ‘right’ one and the other links to someone in my currently detached Hough branch.

This time next week I’ll be in Glasgow. My hotel has told me about the “full English breakfast” they offer. If anyone knows of a traditional Scottish breakfast to be had near George Square / University of Strathclyde I’m all ears!

I’ll never stop being proud to be part of my son’s school. At yesterday’s open evening, current students gave tours and answered questions from prospective students. Here’s what the headmaster said today: “This is, I hope, a school that is focused on people. Your sons are our finest ambassadors.”

I’m finally home after the amazing #SecretsAndLies #FamilyHistory conference. It was wonderful to meet and chat with so many people in person, many for the first time. Great speakers, and great entertainment on Saturday night. I also stopped off to stay with my parents last night.

This week's research has concentrated on whether my 3xGGM Emma Gardiner was baptised twice or whether she had an elder sister Emma who was baptised, died very young, and she was given the same name. Has anyone on #GenHour come across children being baptised twice? (Very) rural England, c.1820.

And today’s #TopTip for #FamilyHistory research is this. If you get an Ancestry hint from Newspapers.com but don’t subscribe, then search on the British Newspaper Archive. My hint related to a death in 1892 (correct year) which led me to a report of the inquest from a local newspaper. Poor Emma! 😢
