yeah.... as other people have been pointing out in more detail, the distances between sects/positioning of locations do not hold up under scrutiny. this might be a sort of aesthetically pleasing list of locations moreso than a usable map, unfortunately :/

diagram..... basically the borderlands exist wherever a wormhole appears that allows travel through the "space between spaces" (the Abyss) to a parallel, alternate realm

so the "borderlands" can actually shift over time (which if my memory is correct is supported by SQQ saying a town had "popped up" around the new portal to the human realm) and are less a specific, contiguous location than wherever the human realm is accessible without going through the Abyss!

the borderlands are just where "the veil is thin" and the Abyss isn't keeping the realms apart. the description (if my memory is correct) that SQQ gives of travelling between the realms post-mushroomification is that of a transparent portal you can only see from certain directions

I need to go back and confirm my understanding but I'm pretty sure the person who made the new map was either taking creative liberties, didn't understand the mechanics (fair), or the "borderlands" is like a tear in the paper of the map for the demon realm allowing a peek at the human realm beneath
