Take Janney Elementary in Tenleytown. On January 29, the Thursday after the storm, 90% of the school's 720 kids attended. But over at Beers Elementary in Ward 7, attendance was 16% of the school's 364 students.

Yesterday, at DC Council’s oversight hearing, our program director, Talia, testified and shared a story from one of our members from the youth collective of Critical Exposure. We’re calling for reinvestment and accountability. Our youth are constantly wrestling against a system they can’t trust.

Who gets to tell the story? At Worldview Wednesdays, our instructors, Orlando and Delonte, help young people explore photography as a tool for storytelling, critical thinking, and change. From camera care to photojournalism ethics, students are learning that their perspectives matter.

Over the last year, MPD has started cooperating more than ever before with federal agents. It has had deadly consequences, and it's beyond time for DC Council to address it. Here are the 11 things we're asking for during DC Council's annual Performance Oversight Hearing on MPD.
