Whenever you see someone say some pre-90's animated work was cheaply made, ask them to state the budget and then marvel as they fail to provide an answer.

Looks like MeTV Toons is airing a colorized Betty Boop cartoon.

Keeping these classic cartoons in their original form is a very delicate issue in regards to preservation. Animation historians try to keep the cartoons as is in the name of preservation, and any attempt to edit or get around outdated stereotypes is seen by some fans as political correctness. 3/3

OTOH, they edited a huge chunk of the Hillbilly Bears cartoon "Judo Kudos" that had a rather offensive Asian stereotype by removing that entire sequence while leaving the rest of the cartoon intact. It makes for an unusually short cartoon compared to other Hillbilly Bears cartoons.. 2/3

One thing I noticed with MeTV Toons is it's inconsistent with edits when it comes to outdated cultural stereotypes in the vintage cartoons. On one end, they show episodes of classic HB series that have stereotypical Native American characters. 1/3

I find it funny that one of Antenna TV's early selling points was that they show the show's credits--"TV as it was meant to be." But halfway through they started doing the split screen stuff with network promos or the next show intro. Meanwhile, MeTV is over here doing full, unobstructed credits.
