February 20 is the #WorldDayOfSocialJustice, when we celebrate and promote equity, inclusion, and opportunity for everyone. Let us all reflect on how we can bring these values to our homes, workplaces, communities, and systems.

We continue to take meaningful action in #BC to address #extortion with community voices at the centre. The membership of the new Community Advisory Group brings a wide range of experience in law enforcement and the justice sector, victims’ advocacy, business and the public service.

The drivers licensing system in BC needs to work for everyone. We’re creating a simpler, more accessible process, while maintaining high safety standards on our roads. These changes will help new drivers build safe behaviours and reduce barriers to earning a full licence.

BIG NEWS! 🚗 Today I introduced legislation that will let people renew most licences or replace lost or damaged cards online through ICBC. This will save you time & reduce lineups, making it more convenient for people across BC to access ICBC services, especially those in rural & remote communities.

I’m encouraged to see that Bill C-14 has passed through the House of Commons recently. I’m looking forward to the Senate passing this Bill soon to make these changes law. This legislation will ensure offenders are held accountable & give us new tools to support victims & address public safety issues

This morning I spoke with Ryan Price at CFAX about how BC is leading the way in keeping children safe online, but there is so much more we could be doing. That’s why I am calling for federal online safety legislation, so we ensure we have the best tools possible to protect our kids from online harms

World #SaferInternetDay is a chance for all of us to recommit to creating online spaces that are safe for everyone. In BC we are doing this through landmark legislation like the #IntimateImagesProtectionAct and educating youth, parents, and educators about ways to protect yourself online.

New rules coming this summer will strengthen #consumerrights in BC. Starting August 1st, you’ll see clearer contracts, better cancellation options, and advance notice for automatic renewals — including services like streaming subscriptions.

Recently I talked with Mo Amir at This Is VANCOLOUR about the tools the federal government has to set standards and protect children from online harms when using social media. Protecting children from these harms is paramount, as we know tragic cases can occur when there aren’t standards in place.

So happy to see more homes protected in Vancouver-Hastings. With support from BC’s Rental Protection Fund, over 40 homes in our community are now protected & nearly 2,200 homes have been secured across BC. More stability for the families & long-time residents who deserve to stay in their communities

From improving supports for survivors of sexual violence, strengthening protections against non‑consensual image sharing, securing federal bail reforms to address repeat offending, and modernizing family law, our government is building a justice system that serves everyone in BC.

I spoke to RED FM today about how from advocating for stricter bail & sentencing changes in the Criminal Code to providing more on the ground resources, we are working to stop #extortion in #Surrey. Every time there needs to be an adjustment to how we tackle this problem, we will make that change.

People of African descent have been a part of this province since at least 1858 when the first of about 800 free African American people arrived in Victoria. From those beginnings, Black Canadians have made enormous contributions to our province. (2/4)

The world is appalled watching this situation unfold, especially the deaths of citizens at the hands of ICE. We cannot watch in silence

There is a lot of misinformation around DRIPA being spread by others for their own political gain. Instead of stoking fears & dividing people, our government is focused on unlocking new opportunities by working with First Nations communities & industry partners through the framework of DRIPA.

These charges are a promising step in addressing the extortion challenges facing people across the lower mainland. We will continue to work collaboratively to ensure people feel safe and these individuals are held accountable.

Today, we remember the more than six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, and the millions of others murdered by the Nazi regime. As survivors grow fewer, our responsibility to remember and our resolve to act grows stronger. (1/3)
