This morning I wrote to 17 Pride groups to say we’ll proceed with their request for a motion to support the Human Rights Code. Every MLA who supports the Code should vote to defend it. We need to stand up for human rights, not give ground to those who would take them away.

Our new legislation to protect the sanctuary of places of worship from hate, disruption or intimidation.

On #InternationalWomensDay, we honour the many women, girls, Two-Spirit & gender diverse people across BC who are often the cornerstones of families, neighbourhoods & communities. The United Nations theme for International Women’s Day this year is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”

Our government believes that everyone, regardless of who they are, deserves a good life free from racism & discrimination. Last week I wrote to Ministers Evan Solomon & Marc Miller about the grave concerns I have about online safety & OpenAI, especially in the wake of the Tumbler Ridge tragedy. We shouldn’t be allowing social media & AI chatbot platforms to experiment in an unregulated way on the minds of young people.

A pleasure to be a part of the animal law panel held by the UVic Law Students' Society. Family pets can be used as a leverage point against those in divorces or fleeing IPV & it is crucial that as we continue to modernize our Family Law Act & provide supports, pets are part of that equation.

This morning a OneBC MLA introduced a Bill in our Legislature to repeal the Human Rights Code. We voted it down. The BC Conservatives voted in favour of a debating a Bill that would rip away human rights for millions of British Columbians. These protections should not be up for debate.

We continue to take meaningful action in #BC to address #extortion with community voices at the centre. The membership of the new Community Advisory Group brings a wide range of experience in law enforcement and the justice sector, victims’ advocacy, business and the public service.

The drivers licensing system in BC needs to work for everyone. We’re creating a simpler, more accessible process, while maintaining high safety standards on our roads. These changes will help new drivers build safe behaviours and reduce barriers to earning a full licence.

BIG NEWS! 🚗 Today I introduced legislation that will let people renew most licences or replace lost or damaged cards online through ICBC. This will save you time & reduce lineups, making it more convenient for people across BC to access ICBC services, especially those in rural & remote communities.

I’m encouraged to see that Bill C-14 has passed through the House of Commons recently. I’m looking forward to the Senate passing this Bill soon to make these changes law. This legislation will ensure offenders are held accountable & give us new tools to support victims & address public safety issues

This morning I spoke with Ryan Price at CFAX about how BC is leading the way in keeping children safe online, but there is so much more we could be doing. That’s why I am calling for federal online safety legislation, so we ensure we have the best tools possible to protect our kids from online harms

World #SaferInternetDay is a chance for all of us to recommit to creating online spaces that are safe for everyone. In BC we are doing this through landmark legislation like the #IntimateImagesProtectionAct and educating youth, parents, and educators about ways to protect yourself online.

New rules coming this summer will strengthen #consumerrights in BC. Starting August 1st, you’ll see clearer contracts, better cancellation options, and advance notice for automatic renewals — including services like streaming subscriptions.
