Finished. Honestly a fantastic read, definitely a very different Cole from DAI, it’s very dark & filled with intrigue. A lot to unpack & think over. I will definitely be looking at Cole differently in DAI after reading this, which is a credit to the depth of writing in his character. 8/10

The beauty of Solas in Trespasser at low approval: he never insults or curses the Inquisitor. If inky attacks he’ll calmly trigger the anchor to stop them. He says Inky’s death “would cause more senseless chaos, more bloodshed. It is unnecessary.” He knows Inky’ll try stopping him.

By appearances the age gap between NiNi Lavellan & Solas is 5 years. NiNi being 37 & Solas looking like he’s 42. In reality Solas is thousands of years old. But in NiNi’s defence she didn’t know he was Fen’Harel…but probably would’ve fancied him regardless though. 😂💚

If Lavellan romanced Solas & they find him in Trespasser, learn who he really is & what he has done, while Solas says “Ir abelas, Vhenan” (I’m sorry, my heart.”) Lavellan demands answers, is willing to listen, understand, be with him & stop him. But they never forgive him. And I love that so much.

It’s always on my mind we were meant to be presented with Solas as Fen’Harel in all his glory set on his own destruction for the sake of “fixing a grave mistake”. He has nothing to lose & everything to gain. What a marvellous yet heartbreaking thing that would have been to witness & experience.

Solas telling Lavellan he can’t let them join him on his path in Trespasser & that he doesn’t want them to “see what he will become.” That always stuck with me because he’s already powerful, one can only imagine the things he was going to do to achieve his goal that will ultimately cost his own life

And the Inquisitor would stop Solas because 1) it’s personal. 2) they know him better than anyone (if romanced). 3) Inky would take all they learnt from their time in the Inquisition & from Solas ironically, use it in their favour. It would be a very long chess game, but in the end Inky would win.

Love that in DAI Solas’s odd but he helps, drops fascinating lore, gets tipsy, gossips, & snacks on horderves at the Winter Palace while telling us to check in with the servants. He’s always furious at the upper classes & injustice while seeking ways to aid ppl in need. Plot twist: he’s Fen’Harel.

A favourite thing about the DAI & Inky is they step up, even though they’ve had their entire life messed up, the painful anchor, labelled a criminal/imprisoned/put in charge of a religious organisation they may not believe in. Life’s not easy (esp if Inky’s an Elf or Qunari) but they keep going.

One has to marvel at Solas in Dragon Age Inquisition. His approval for the most part is based on the Inquisitor helping refugees, creating jobs, looking out for communities, being grounded & not becoming an out of touch ivory tower & only communicating with an inner circle of “yes-men.”

For a few months I’ve been trying to finish this Solavellan one shot. The idea has been in my head since first playing DAI, but I don’t know how to finish this. Because going into Solas’s headspace to figurre out how he would respond is leaving me a blank. He’d probably say nothing & wander off.

I prefer to actually use my brain to write a novel. Using AI counts for nothing. This basically says "they stole a bunch of works & put their name on the final product.” AI doesn’t organically create a anything - it just steals. And to even boast about doing such a thing is so very ignorant.

Wonder what was going through Solas’s head in Trespasser reunion. He tells his Dalish elf beloved: “I’m Fen’Harel, the one your clan told wicked tales of, & the reason for all of this mess.” Lavellan was like: “you may be a scoundrel, but you’re my scoundrel.” 💚 No wonder he cracked & kissed her😅

Favorite #Solavellan moment when Lavellan stands before Solas knowing the truth, he is Fen’Harel & all he has done. The love remains mingled with sadness & anger. Solas keeps his distance probably overcome, his Vhenan knows him fully & still loves him, vows to save him from himself.

From my Uni days to Law School now I learnt constructive criticism is part of the experience. It’s there to aid self improvement & bring out the best you can be. To see where we went wrong & to improve. If I had put my blindfold on every time someone offered feedback on my work I’d learn nothing.

I wonder to find audiobooks versions for The Calling, Stolen Throne, & Asunder. I checked audible but found nothing. I have heard a tiny excerpt of an audiobook for Asunder in a yt essay video yet have no clue where to find it.

Thinking about the Inquisitor and the sacrifice of their body time and time again.

Learning that if it wasn’t for the ME team coming in last minute we would never have gotten the Solavellan ending… that makes so much sense now.

Reading Asunder and Cole is very different from the character in Inquisition. A point of note: while Cole was in Templar Evangeline’s room he spots a sitting wolf statue with baleful red gems in its eyes. This is surely Fen’Harel, because those statues are also in Origins. An easter egg or a clue.

Starting to read Asunder for the first time, after having read The Calling, and A Stolen Throne (loved both of those so much - they made me love the games even more). I let out a such a gasp when opening the first page to see Cole’s name. ❤️ Surely it’s the emphatic spirit Cole aka Solavellan’s son.

A Dalish elf Rook’s ire & resentment at Fen’Harel is justified. They wouldn’t believe the Evanuris were bad because he says so. But after D’Meta’s crossing & discovering more they’d have a huge crisis of faith, Bellara & Davrin would too. A missed opportunity to explore such a concept.

A head canon: NiNi Lavellan learns what occurred Felassan & Briala with the Dalish clan & Imshael. NiNi interprets what Solas did as rough exercising justice: for failing to give him the Eluvians passcode & for massacring the Dalish elves. Solas doesn’t know whether to be unnerved or intrigued.

Replay Dragon Age Origins as a mage with a quest to destroy a blood vial in the phylactery to stop the circle tracking apostates. At Redcliffe: the arl’s son is possessed by a desire demon. And the only way to free him & save his life is to enter the fade & destroy the demon. So much fun! 💖

Point of confusion regarding Spirits in Dragon Age. Are they genderless. Solas references they are when speaking about his Spirit friend. But in DA4 they have genders. The “Fade Expert” labels the curiosity spirit servant as a boy. Spite is labelled as a man regardless if it identify as such.

By reading The Calling (Dragon Age novel) & learning that Alistair’s mother is the grey warden mage Fiona we meet in Inquisition (& can hang out with if the Inquisitor sides with the mages) was one of the coolest things - what a neat little twist.

Always wondered since Bellara is a Dalish elf wouldn’t her reaction to Elgar’nan & Ghilan'nain being evil make her believe this has to be a trick from Fen’Harel. The Dalish in the previous games believe Fen’Harel was a heretic. Would it not lead to a huge crisis of faith for her & all she knew.

I really appreciated Solas in Trespasser being so in love with the Inquisitor that he forbids them from following him. The fact he loves the Inquisitor but carries on, though heartbreaking, was a refreshing concept. The love between Solavellan didn’t waver in that moment it only grew stronger.

Solas is so crafty & clever here, revealing crumbs truthful information to build up the trust. In Lavellan’s case, use they’re an elf to form a “we gotta stick together, the orb is elven, they’ll blame us,” bond. It’s peak Fen’Harel shenanigans - deliciously fun & intelligent. 💚 #Solavellan
