The first measurements are running and more will follow soon! NuClim aims to determine the baseline of greenhouse gas concentrations in the North Atlantic. We look at radon, greenhouse gases and a range of other parameters at the ENA observatory (Azores) and @maceheadccaps.bsky.social (Ireland).

Stordalen Mire is underlain by permafrost which thawing rapidly, shifting the landscape from carbon-sink to potential carbon source. This carbon release is mediated by microbes that inhabit the three "canonical" habitats in the Mire that form a permafrost thaw gradient (Palsas -> Bogs -> Fens).

Last week Linda & Johannes from @gfz.bsky.social visited to scan the forest around the @icos-ri.eu EC flux mast with a LIDAR drone. All went well, so they scanned the young stand at the @lufluxes.bsky.social EC mast too. @icossweden.bsky.social @fluxnet.bsky.social @lund-university.bsky.social

And here a short video of Mikhail's soil chambers in action. We are very confident they will work well since the design has been tested under harsh conditions on Greenland. So far we only operate NEE/CH4 chambers but we plan to add dark respiration chambers and trenches to exclude tree respiration.
