One of the most exciting musicians I’ve come across in ages. Last year's Sound of Raspberry with Tatsuya Yoshida was a top 10 contender. They have the same manic energy that feeds off one another. He's also made some similarly wild albums with Ryoko Ono, Otomo Yoshihide, T. Mikawa & Max Devereaux.

#albumshuffle Day 562: Martín Escalante - Destroyed on Every Level [Sploosh, 2016] I've never in my life heard an alto sax being punished in such a way. A solid wall of machine gun skronk and pained screeching punctuated by gasps for air. An unrelenting and intense 30 mins of woodwind harsh noise.

#albumshuffle Day 561: Dean Milan - Phattest Jams [Self-Released, 1990s?] An outsider classic championed on WFMU's Incorrect Music show and later posted as part of the original 365 Days Project. Self-penned would-be pop classics warbled/mumbled out over a consumer keyboard and tinny beat.

I bought one of those tymbark bottled drinks for 35p today and the message inscribed on the inside of the cap was "It's all downhill now". A very reassuring message to get while the wheels are falling off.

#albumshuffle Day 560: MAI mai - 春荒 Spring Famine [Not on label, 2021] 枉凝眉 is a remarkably pretty opener. There's a lot of nice eletroacoustic chittering and bleeps, a bit of acoustic guitar and singing and a melancholic post-rock sounding bit that turns into sustained howling modulation (very sw).

#albumshuffle Day 557: Claire M Singer - Solas [Touch, 2016] A collection of Singer’s compositions from 2002 to 2015 primarily for cello and organ. Warm enveloping drones with minimal melodic patterns. The electroacoustic Ceò with its shifting processed piano and cello textures is most engaging.

#albumshuffle Day 555: The Green Arrows - 4-Track Recording Session [Analog Africa, 2006] A true gem from the bars around Bulawayo & later Harare during Zimbabwean War of Liberation. Infectious grooves and dance-floor fillers with elliptical lyrics against the Rhodesian state.

#albumshuffle Day 550: Anton Ponomarev & Ryoko Ono - AP/RO [Fort Evil Fruit, 2022] Ryoko Ono's screaming alto sax combined with a wall of electronic noise and processed sax interjections from Ponomarev that grind along ceaselessly for the 25 minute opener. Quite the crushing sound.

#albumshuffle Day 549: IZ - 廻声Jangqerek (Echo) [Old Heaven Books, 2013] When Mamer moved to Beijing he started the band IZ as a conduit for his arrangements of Kazakh folk music. As time went on, the music started to drift with Kөlêngkê incorporating darker avant-rock and prog sounds.

Bae Il Dong is a pansori master who trained in isolation for seven years living in a hut by a waterfall up the side of Jirisan. He'd strengthen his voice by singing/howling at the top of his lungs directly into the waterfall, for many hours at a time every day. Quite a feat.

Their third album has a different cute mascot character. Nice.

#albumshuffle Day 541: Acid Lumo - 防空洞录音 Recoding in an Air-raid Shelter [TAILNIA, 2023] Cassette from an open collective of musicians from Wunan who play improvised music of different varieties. This is a 30 minute free improvisation recorded while camping in an air raid shelter up Yujia mountain.

It got rolled back, but that's up there with changing the name of jerkcity to bonequest and painstakingly removing every instance of rands from the strips to protect his silicon valley guru reputation.
