I opened up The Lair this morning so they could roam around, and Meadow shot out of there like a bullet. She explored further than she has in a long time. She seems well enough now, apart from the extreme weight loss and restlessness when she lies down.

Learned why human nail clippers are used for most piggies. Thought I'd mutilated maple Mrom the bleeding with the bigger scissor like clippers I use for Tulips significantly bigger nails. My carer did it as she is used to doing her 4 children's nails. Had special powder though.

I find it so weird that Maple and Berry jump up onto boxes as Tulip & Snow were neglected adults and never did that.

They are so adorable as a herd. Feel they might be a tad lazier so maybe Tulip is in charge. Maple is slowly getting less shy, hoping in another month she will be more confident. Tulip is no longer staying in one place in the cage so she feels more comfortable with them.

I was going to make a donation to the shelter Spike came from. On their adoption page they have what is clearly one of Spike’s relatives. A baby boy, 7 weeks, 246g.

Early signs of major power changes in The Lair. Hayworth often lurks in the cloisters and waits till the others finish eating to venture into the open. She’s been lounging in the open more in the past day than in the previous six months. Yesterday evening she head-butted Tabitha and took her #snac.

I'm going to miss him: the trust, the appetite that earned him the nickname Snackling, his magnificent white 'do, his eye tat, his checkerboard fur, his orca chin, the black leg in front, the white sock in the back. The nightly game of Pig Chase when I needed to give him meds. Sleep well, my boy.

He had a sweet temperament. Though he was never a lap pig, he literally turned to me for comfort and safety through his many vet visits over the past year and a half. He trusted me enough to fall asleep with his eyes closed while I talked to him at the vet a few weeks ago.

Almost as soon as we got home, Meadow laid down in the spot where Spike spent his last night. She hasn’t moved for hours.

Three ladies without their man. The green fleece Tabitha is sitting on? Covered in Spike’s scent. Earlier she was in the pigloo, which is his alternate refuge when he’s not feeling well. Hayworth isn’t showing signs of mourning. She had zoomies this evening.

Meadow is in a tunnel crying and crying and crying. Tabitha is sitting like a statue, staring blankly at a lettuce leaf. Hayworth is like a kid who was left unsupervised for hours with the remote control and all the snacks.

Several packages arrived yesterday and today, with barley biscuits that Spike was especially fond of, oat hay twists he loved, a new pack of syringes mostly used for his meds… Never realized how many things were structured around making sure he was healthy and happy.

Woke up this morning to the sound of Meadow crying. I picked her up and talked to her about how much we all miss Spike and how he was the best of boars. She doesn’t understand a word, of course, but the extra attention surprised her enough that she stopped crying for a while.

I'm sorry to read this Susan. As you say he was doing well. Hopefully once the shock has reduced, you can take comfort in the fact you did so much to care for him, and his friends, that he must have felt such love. Sending love to all humans and pigs. Popcorn free to your friends Spike 💔 🌈

Spike the Snackling Pig, Imperial Consort and Former Page of the Land of Rodentia, passed away this morning. He would have been 3 1/2 in January. He was fine, and then suddenly this weekend he wasn't. Last night I knew it was probably going to be time. There was no fight in him.
