You is an 18-year-old college student working at LeMU. Though her full name is “Yubiseiharukana,” her friends just call her “Nakkyu.” She’s very knowledgeable about survival and the occult.

Tsugumi is a 17-year-old high school student with a closed-off personality, perfectly fitting the image of a “cool beauty.” She only opens up to her pet mouse, Chami. She was involved in an accident after meeting Takeshi at LeMU.

Sara is a 16-year-old high school student, as well as You’s old schoolmate. She likes to refer to herself as a ninja. She was on a field trip to LeMU when the accident occurred. Due to loneliness and anxiety of the situation, she looks up to The Kid as an older brother figure.

Sora is a 24-year-old guide at LeMU. While she bears a vast amount of knowledge about LeMU, she has an unexpectedly playful personality and often lacks common sense. As the eldest, she looks out for everyone as they try to escape LeMU.

Coco is a 14-year-old middle school student who acts much younger than she is. She’s close with a dog named Pipi and often speaks a mysterious language of the same name. She loves doling out nicknames, like calling Takeshi “Takepyon.” This odd girl holds the key to the story.

Takeshi is a 20-year-old college student and the protagonist of the story. Though he seems cheerful and silly at first, his proactive, hot-blooded nature makes him a reliable figure to the others. He was caught in the accident that trapped everyone underwater in LeMU.

The Kid is a 15-year-old amnesiac and secondary protagonist. He doesn’t remember his real name, anything about his life, or anything about why he came to LeMU. It’s up to you to unravel the mysteries surrounding this strange boy.

I've been seeing some confusion about this point, so to clarify, yes, The Shell Part III: Purgatorio/Kara no Shoujo 3 English release does integrate the content of the Japanese prologue demo into the start of the game, so you don't have to worry about missing any content, it's all properly there.

Oh, right, a little tip for players of The Shell Part III: Paradiso/Kara no Shoujo 3. As you're playing the game, check the character voice settings and test the voices. Then test the voices again after getting the True Ending. You might be surprised by what you find...
