in 2026 i'm going to write little essays about skateboarding and life and send them by email to people who'd like to receive them. substack is very bad, metrics are death, and i'd like to write less publicly about these things. DM or respond with an email addy if you'd like to be included!

I wonder if there is a space to write about books you love that isn’t quite reviewing but something more like telling a tale or entering into the poem of a novel. I tried it out with Hiroko Oyamada’s The Hole

my version of the "what older you could tell younger you" fantasy is popping back to the late 80s and pointing at the screen during the neil blender/lance mountain/o "junk skating" part in "ban this" (1989) to say to preteen me, "you can do this with gender, too! don't take it so seriously; PLAY!"

I cannot tell you how many times I've tried this trick. I can tell you how it's never worked, ever, often comically so. How baffled I've been by it until today when, for whatever reason, something very small or large must have been different. I have no idea. It's a mystery. Skateboarding is so good.

100%, yes. Marc always foregrounded reading as part of his life, always. Culture more broadly, everything beyond skateboarding found its way into his practice.
