Rain forecast for today so long ride indoors. First time I've done one of those in a while! It's convenient to just be at home and have everything I could need on a table next to me, but it's SO much harder to have no breaks.

Leading up to making some changes in third party supplied software, I started adding tests just to make sure I don't break anything. I've already found 2 bugs that could have safety implications. And I've only made one test harness!

Today is a mid-week rest day, which I never have. So I spent the morning making raspberry jam and pancakes! And it's still early enough that I get to watch something while eating these!

Using Grocy has made me actually go through grocery store receipts, in order to add things I forgot to put on my list. And doing that has made me catch at least two occurrences of duplicate scans. I am fearful of turning into "that guy who cares way too much about the receipt".

As someone who does baking/cooking a lot when processing "stuff", the fact that I am trying to plan on making mille-feuille should probably be an alarm.

I don't like that I am getting used to him not being here. It's like a scab I want to rip apart.

First day back at the gym after grieving Sammy and immediately overexerted myself on squats. I couldn't even sit upright without feeling like I was going to pass out, even after several minutes. I'm okay now, but wow that sucked. Guess when I make it back next time I need to take it easy.

Apparently trying to install and run steam in a debian instance of a distrobox modified the steam files in my host machine! And it subtly broke many things that I didn't even notice. I can't tell if that means distrobox can be a footgun, or if this is just a one-off bad experience.

Another (Practice) TT done! The vibes were nice. Finished in 53ish minutes, and set a 53 minute power PB! I'm still getting back on the bike after a break, so I thought "Just keep it in sweetspot, don't push too hard", and I wound up averaging my FTP!

It's sort of weird/amazing how sometimes we can compartmentalize, and sometimes it feels like everything all at once.

Getting my Valve Index running on Fedora is a troublesome chore. No matter how much fiddling I do with Libsurvive, monado, etc, the reoccurring issue still seems to be that the display won't actually turn on. I feel like that will be the final issue I fix, and it was also the first.

Bike fit day! Took the day off work so I could do a pre-ride to fatigue myself. It feels so good to just make a whole day a little riding.

I am now 100% on board with home automation. Being able to force the AC to be on while sitting in the bathroom is awesome.

It boils my blood that I have to make presentations to both convince management to approve changes, like they are peers, but also lay out all of the foundational information like I am teaching a remedial math course. Fucking manager wants me to "remind" people what the alpha beta frame is.

It's amazing how much more fun work is when you get to actually work on a problem YOU find interesting. 7 hours of working on slides for dummies - Kill me. 1 hour of debugging a C++ problem which involved fuckery with references + iterators - I cannot wait to continue with that tomorrow morning.

Got our zwave dongle today so finally got home assistant to talk to our thermostat! I'm actually really surprised at how responsive it is. Can't wait to do whatever is next...

I'm finding it really hard to accept feedback which is "you need to communicate better about XYZ" when no one clearly gives a fuck about communication with me or meeting me on my level.

Time Trial done! 30:07 for a 10 mile course. Averaged 254W which is 19W over what I thought my FTP was. My goal was to just show up and hopefully set a new 20 minute power PB, and I definitely accomplished that! Excited to try intervals at that power next week.

Google Clock update is ass. This text is too fucking narrow to see from very far away. Moving the fucking location of the alarm tab is awful. Especially for world clock? Stupid! Timer "going off screen" is much less communicative than it was before. Flashing blue screen worked well.

Manager has decided he REALLY wants to know how projects are progressing because he can't keep good records himself. I am going to drown this mother fucker in reports from a Getting Thing Done workflow implemented in Obsidian.

Not paying attention while signing up for stupid website number 2398 and accidentally didn't realize that the thing with the weird character constraints was the USERNAME, not the password.

Today didn't start as a bad day. I just keep making little mistakes and they're weighing on me. But learning that some overflow/underflow arithmetic is wrong AND unit tests say it works fine is certainly not something I wanted on my mind for the rest of the day.

Got feedback that a presentation "needs more detail" but also "needs to be dumbed down". Can't wait to see how this will turn out...

I don't know why we tell kids drugs are bad. One cup of coffee can turn my shitty afternoon into a great one. And it's cheap. Caffeine is OP.
