I agree with this - along with the sharply more partisan rulings in the most salient precedential cases. When the Warren court overturned precedent, the typical margin was 7-2, and often unanimous. Under Roberts, almost 80% of the time it is by a straight partisan vote.

Worth emphasizing: Alito justified cutting the normal wait short and expediting this judgment only yesterday by claiming that one of the parties wasn't going to move for reconsideration. Today, that party said "Hold up. We actually DID want to move for reconsideration. You didn't give us time."

If SCOTUS had followed normal procedure, the Robinson plaintiffs might have had time to submit their request before Alito rushed this out. Instead (for definitely,completely non-partisan reasons) Sam skipped the normal waiting period and issued the judgment. Embarrassing.
