explores violence not as tabloid mythology, but a prism for understanding how football's darker subcultures emerge from societal fault lines. A profound meditation on belonging, identity and the ghosts of working-class experience. Essential listening

A fantastic piece from @stuartmcgurk who went inside Sainsbury's Christmas ad campaign to tell the story of the ad execs that spend the whole year working out how to make the nation cry. Its ... joyful?

i had a lovely time taking Omari Hutchinson to the Marshes with GQ for a chat about being a celebrity at 12, jaded by 15, and still wearing shoes that donāt quite fit you at 22.

Started listening today. Well worth checking out. Insightful cultural criticism without the sneery cynicism you get from those who are disconnected from working class culture.

we have finally evolved past the need for The Rock and he will be looked upon by future scholars as a kind of folksy curiosity, like the Lindy Hop or a dog who was once made the deputy sheriff of a midsize Minnesotan town

i think some of this is just Ridley Scott being bad and old but also that self-referential humour and ācall backsā of 2010s TV was metabolised on a industrial scale by the MCU to created an irresistible template and now āhow many of these things can you recognise?ā is the only metric that matters

for a whole year, we worked on The English Disease and the response has been amazing. i donāt use Apple Podcasts but when i saw they had review functionality, i have become morbidly fascinated by the spectrum of reaction.

Listening to Season 2 very interesting podcast..

Doesn't glamorise the violence but I think tries to frame it in today's terms. Dr Lisa Mackenzie brings direct opinions... from Sutton In Ashfield now at University of Bedford

My recommendation this morning is for 'The English Disease' podcast, looking at why people got into football hooliganism and what this has morphed into. Particularly relevant given the riots over the summer. big fan
